Foreign tourists have spent an average of seven days in Bulgarian winter resorts, spending an average of 1335 leva each, the State Agency for Tourism said on April 3 2009.
Add to this the cost of the tourist packages purchased by foreigners in their native countries, which is an average of 843 leva, and the total spending foreigners did for their seven days in Bulgaria this winter was about 2178 leva, SAT head Anelia Kroushkova told reporters.
Foreigners who had no pre-arranged bookings paid an average of 1260 leva for their stay.
This, according to her, meant that Bulgaria was not longer a low-cost tourist destination.
British tourists were the one who spent the most she said: an average of 2600 leva a stay.
By comparison, Bulgarians preferred to spend not seven, but between two to five days in winter resorts. The average price paid by Bulgarian tourists for tourist packages was 370 leva a person. The additional spending was an average of 295 leva, Kroushkova said.
Those who arrived at resorts with no prior booking spent an average of 423 leva.
